Question Number: 17245Law 6 - Assistant Referee 10/11/2007RE: Pro Professional Vijayan Arland of Pune, Maharashtra India asks...Can the players appeal for an offside to the lines man? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol They do it all the time - they look to the assistant referee with their hands in the air simulating the indirect free kick signal. To me it looks like a bunch of little boys asking to be excused from the schoolroom.
Most referees pay no attention to such antics - because the players are invariably wrong. If there had been an offside, the assistant referee would have seen it and flagged it on his own.
Let's have an agreement - the refs will ref, the players will play, and the coaches will coach. If everyone plays their own role, things will go better for all concerned.
