Question Number: 17131

Law 10 - Method of Scoring 10/6/2007

RE: Rec Under 13

John Maltby of Sleepy Hollow, USA asks...

In an AYSO U 10 game attacking player took a shot, it deflected off the back of a defensive player in to the goal, I whistled a goal. A few moments later I noticed that the girl off whose back the ball had gone in to the net was distressed and seemed to be in pain, I froze the game, called on her coach and she was asited off. I let the goal stand, the player seemed more bruised in pride than physically, but the coach was very upset. I think I was correct.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

You were. The coach should be upset about his bent player and leave the refereeing to you.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

If by froze, you mean you stopped play after the kickoff to deal with the injury, then I agree entirely with Ref Fleischer's answer. I do hope you restarted with a dropped ball wherever the ball was when you stopped play, if it was after the kickoff for the goal? Or did you freeze the game before the kickoff? In that case the restart is still the kickoff.
