Question Number: 16992Law 10 - Method of Scoring 9/30/2007RE: semi-pro Under 17 joe dyer of cardiff, glamorgan wales asks...if a player shoots and the ball takes a deflection off the ref into the net does the goal count? if not why? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Yes, it counts.
The referee should ask himself how he got to be in such a position to assist on a goal! We try our best to avoid being hit by the ball.

View Referee Gary Voshol profileAnswer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Goal is good! A referee is part of the match fixtures much like a corner post, goal post, or crossbar. Players will be sure to point out the wooden head aspect of similarity quite often. Ref will be looking to *Get out of Dodge!* so to speak knowing poor anticipation and or poor positioning on his part is at least partially responsible. Assessor will be busy writing and noting the circumstances for post game review and fans will show both their appreciation for the assist and the roar of displeasure for you favouring one team over the other! REF ensures car keys are in hand, most relived his vehical is parked for quick exit! Restart as quickly as you can and a "Sorry guys my bad" will not likely to hurt even if they cry and moan over the its so unfair portion of the game. Always prepare pregame for one never knows. Cheers
