Question Number: 16632

Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 9/10/2007

RE: rec,competive Under 15

tammie of gadsden, al etowah asks...

One of my players today at practice kicked the ball in the goal on kick-off and scored. The ball did not touch another person. Now when I played soccer about 15 yrs ago the rule was you could not score on a kick-off, Then i think it changed to it had to touch another player before it went in to be a goal. So my players and myself are wondering what is the currect ruling on that. Thanks

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Don't know about 15 years ago but since 1997 you HAVE been able to score directly on a kick off.
