Question Number: 16185Law 10 - Method of Scoring 8/1/2007RE: Former Collegiate player Adult Chris of Dallas, Tx USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 15022 The scenario is similar to the 2nd question asked [15022]. Red team is attacking. Behind the play a blue player commits a red card offense while the ball is in play against an opponent before red scores. The CR notices the trailing ARs flag for the infraction after the red team scores. Based on Referee Fleischer's comments, advantage could be awarded for the goal and then the player from blue sent off and blue would play with one less.
Thanks,
Chris Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol In most cases referees are advised NOT to invoke advantage when there is a sending-off offense. That's because if the play is not resolved quickly, this player who is to be sent off can become a loose cannon. He's already going to go, so what will stop him from committing more mischief while play continues? About the only time we play advantage when there is a pending red card is if the attacking team has an imminent very good shot at goal.
Your question is a little different, in that the referee isn't aware that the AR has seen the misconduct until after the goal has been scored. Since Red scored and Blue is to be sent off, allow the goal as if advantage had been called.

Play stops as the ball crosses the goal line. The referee becomes aware of the problem and finds the team NOT scoring is at fault. The red goal stands, the blue player is sent-off for violent conduct and shown the red card. There is no need to play advantage because the advantage you would play for has already happened. Go with what has presented itself.

In your scenario, there is no advantage given as it's already occured. The goal stands. The blue player is then sent off and shown the red card and blue plays with one less player.
