Question Number: 16127Law 6 - Assistant Referee 7/26/2007RE: REC Under 11 Bill of Grand Rapids, MI USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 16095 Thanks for the quick answers. I was the AR on the side the play occurred so I saw that it was just a tap with no movement and no one else touched it. I did politley ask the CR after the match about the call. He told me that the ball only needed to be touched. Oh well. I feel good about how I reacted and I would work with that crew again. Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol It appears, Bill, that you are up on the latest of the interpretations. Ever since the requirement for a full revolution was removed a decade ago, there has been a variety of ways we have been instructed. So in your partner's defense, perhaps he simply missed the latest information and was relying on an older version that was not so clear. After all, if the ball was quivering it moved, or at least some of the molecules in it moved, right?
The latest from USSF is that the foot must be used in a kicking motion - which in itself does not prevent the ball being touched by the sole of the shoe - and that the ball must have some discernable relocation. From "here" to "there".
If this was the largest problem your ref crew had, I'd say you work together very well and you are all to be commended.
