Question Number: 15787

Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 6/13/2007

RE: rec, competitive Under 19

Jan Hillsberg of New York, New York USA asks...

An injury occurs on one end of the field. Play continues, but when the ball is at midfield, or in the other teams side of the field, the referee notices the injury and stops play because of the injury. When play is started again, where is the drop ball started - where the injury is, or where the ball is now?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

The restart is a dropped ball at the position the ball was when the game was stopped.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Jan,
my colleague is spot on! If play is stopped for an injury the restart occurs from where the ball is NOT the injury site when the whistle goes! Cheers
