The play is stopped. How is play resumed? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino Why was play stopped? Was there a foul and if so who committed it? Was play stopped solely to deal with the injury?
If the defender committed a foul against the attacker's in their own penalty area, play should be restarted with a penalty kick.
If the attacker committed a foul, then a free kick shall be awarded to the defensive team at the location of the foul.
If play was stopped solely to deal with the injury the game is resumed with a dropped ball at the location where the ball was when play was stopped.
In all cases the ball must be placed in accordance with the special circumstances of law 8.
