Question Number: 15538Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 5/20/2007RE: Travel Under 11 Brian Sokolsky of Carlisle, PA USA asks...During the kick-off to start the game, or to start the second half or after a goal has been scored, if the team kicking off fails to make the ball move forward (they kick the ball straight back to their midfield) do they get to re-kick off or is the ball given to the opposing team as an indirect free kick? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino The kick-off will be retaken as the ball was not properly put into play. If the action is repeated or done as a deliberate time wasting tactic the player should be cautioned and they should be shown the yellow card. However, even if there is a card given you would still resume play with a kick-off until it is taken properly.
