Question Number: 13905

Law 10 - Method of Scoring 9/25/2006

RE: REC Under 15

A.Matos of Middleburg, FL US asks...

This question is a follow up to question 13779

My child had a game in which the opposing teams coach placed their goalie with full gear to play, and left the last defender in the back, according to others this was for the sole purpose of the girl he had placed as goalie to double up the score if she actually scored. in other words if their goalie scored it would be two goals vs one. Our players were instructed to go one on one with the last defender in order to avoid the offsides. In one instance when WE got a penalty kick our coach instructed our goalie to take it, and she scored, which everyone said it counted as two. Is this so? if not, is it possible in futbol in Europe, or other countries?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Each goal counts one for the side scoring it. The goalkeeper is just another player.

Regarding offside: use the second last opponent or be level with the last two opponents. The goal keeper is usually one of those opponents but when the she is well up field there still is the requirement for an attacker to be not nearer the goal line than the last but one opponent or the last two opponents.

Regards,

I really don't understand where this is coming from. A goal is a goal is a goal. It counts as 1. Period. A keeper is like anyone else. If the keeper scores it's a single goal.

Another "myth" in the creating? Regardless of who scores the goal, it only counts as "one." All the best,

Goals count as 1 regardless of who scored or how far from the goal it was scored.
