Question Number: 13808Law 10 - Method of Scoring 9/17/2006RE: varsity High School Michael Heal of port jervis , ny usa asks...when a team gets an own goal who gets the credit Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer The other team, they get one goal. I write in my book the number of the player who scored it, the time and circle it. I can remember it's an own goal.

View Referee Jeroen Krijvenaar profileAnswer provided by Referee Debbie Hoelscher It may have been simply an issue of tradition, but my understanding of "own goal" credit was that it was given to the player on the scoring team who last touched the ball (before their opponent "helped" it into the goal.)
