Question Number: 13011

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 6/11/2006

RE: Div 1 Under 15

G Buchanan of Brisbane, Qld Australia asks...

striker is pulled back by his shirt but manages to pass to his teammate who scores a goal after the ref has given advatage. The ref awards a goal but the linesman calls him over to report the use of bad language by one of the strikers. The ref disallows the goal, then awards a free kick to the opposition.
Is this correct or should the goal stand and the ref caution the players for use of bad language?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

If a teammate of the player that scores used bad language BEFORE the goal then the referee is within Law to call off the goal and award an IFK to the opponents. That said, it would have to be language of a monumentally bad nature and directed at someone before I would even consider calling off a goal. Would have no problem cautioning the player and restarting with a kick off

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

With language bad enough to warrant stopping play I would not consider a caution, a sending-off would be my solution. restart would be Indirect Free Kick where the player's alligator mouth overrode his hummingbird brain...

Regards,
