Question Number: 12947Law 11 - Offside 6/4/2006RE: Select Under 13 Joe Morefield of Norton Shores, Michigan USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 12932 In this case Offside cannot be an issue because in order to be guilty of offside, don't you have to have the ball played to the player in the "offside position" by a teammate. A player is not guilty of offside if he is in an offside position and intercepts the ball from the Keeper. Right?
Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Joe, are you refering to another question??? If the opposing keeper has posession /control of the ball and releases the ball into play any opponent may play that ball. No offside infringement is possible! So you are right! Cheers

Judge those in offside positions as "Out of Play" when the ball touches or is played by a member of their team. Don't condiser those in offside positions as "Out of Play" when played by the other team. The assistant must have an on and off switch implanted in his head. Touch by the colleague of offside player switch on, played by an opponent switch off and return to the wait for a touch by the team mate of the offside guy mode.

Offside is only judged at the moment the ball is played or touched by a teammate. However, the keeper would have to have had control of the ball in the situation you describe if a shot had been taken. that is to say, a deflection off the keeper would not negate offside.
