Question Number: 12829Fitness 5/17/2006RE: Rec/Select Under 16 Jazmyn of Oshawa, Canada asks...I relize that this is an American site. but how old do you have to be in Canada to become a ref ? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson HI Jazmyn, While the site is US based I referee in Canada http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/referee/pdf/becomingasoccerref2004.pdf has a great intro to advise you and the number below will set you up with contact of the Ontario way of doing things.

1. Minimum age 12 years old
2. Experience ( minimum suggested games per 2 year period to achieve the designated level) First step is to sign up for the course! No requirements!
3. Game level suggested to be counted for advancement. How many games? (mini-soccer or U-14) Referee: 5 Asst.-Referee: 20
4. Training course requirements to keep the level Your desire to improve!
5. Written examination. Requirements / passing mark / length / type of questions?? Yes. Curriculum and exam. Minimum 75%. Length: 1 hour Yes/no questions
6. Field evaluation /how many / passing mark Yes, minimum 4 with 75% and up
7. Physical Fitness test /how often? No 8. Medical requirements None
9. How many years at designated level before eligible for promotion (minimum) 1
10. Course fee Less than $50 It is set by yourprovincial association
11. Duration of the course 12 hours
12. Annual report to submit No Cheers
