Question Number: 12552Law 10 - Method of Scoring 4/13/2006Gary Voshol of Royal Oak, MI USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 12518 'Twas asked, if a free kick bounced off the referee and into the goal, what would be the result.
You might want to note that the goal would count as long as the ref-deflection wasn't from the first touch of an indirect free kick. The panel members know that the referee is not a player, and thus does not change the "indirectness". Some readers may not have that knowledge. Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Gary you're correct but more properly for a goal to be scored the ball must touch another player. That's the key, player.
Regards,

All else applies including the need for the ball to touch another player from an indirect kick before a goal may be scored.
