View Referee Chuck Fleischer profileAnswer provided by Referee Debbie Hoelscher The goal keeper is a player too. It just happens that they have special priveledges in a certain area, specifically using their hands to play the ball within their own penalty area. In order to make them distinct, they must wear a uniform which sets them apart from any other player on the field. If a goal keeper chooses to leave their position by the net and take the ball down to their opponents side, that is completely up to them. However, once the goal keeper leaves their own penalty area, the cannot use their special privildges. From a practical standpoint, it's not the smartest way to go about winning a game. But there are no LOTG which prevent it.
