Question Number: 12177Law 10 - Method of Scoring 2/10/2006RE: Recreation League Under 11 Mark Civetti of Coral Springs, Florida USA asks...What is the rule of a player scoring inside the rectangle box outside the the goal area? Can an offensive player enter that area at anytime ? Thank You for your time. MC Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino I assume you are talking about the goal area which is the smaller bounded area inside the penalty area. On regulation sized fields, the goal area extends out 6 yards. On small fields it's usually 4 yards. that said, any player on either team is allowed to be anywhere on the field. That said, if an attacking player in in offside position when the ball is touched or played by a team mate, he may not become actively involved in play. Ref Fleischer has posted an excellent treatise on Offside on our main page if you have any questions as to offside position. There are some that believe no attackers are allowed inside the goal area but that is just one of the many myths Of The Game.
