RE: Under 8

Jared of Sacramento, CA UNITED STATES OF AMERICA asks...

Do u give a yellow card before a red 1?

Answer provided by Referee Nagy

Hi Jared! I suppose you mean caution and SHOW a yellow card, not give. Usually a caution is first. Sometimes a player has to be sent off and shown the red card without a caution. Look in the Laws of the Game under Law 12. For swearing or stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity, it's a send off right away, no caution. But at age 8, I would not caution or send off a player unless it's an extreme situation. Keep those cards in your pocket till they get to be at least 10, more like 13.

Answer provided by Referee Stacy Kalstrom

HI Jared,.According to Law 12-Fouls and Misconduct, there are seven reasons to show a player a yellow card and also seven different reasons for which you show a player a red card. So in answer to your question, No, you do not have to show a yellow first, if a red card is warrented, then red it is. I hope that you never get shown a red card...Good luck and have fun playing soccer.
