Question Number: 32746Law 4 - The Players Equipment 9/26/2018RE: Adult Mason Lewis of West Palm Beach, Florida USA asks...Do any of the players wear their soccer socks over their knees or to their thighs? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Mason Sock length is not part of the Laws other than the socks most cover the players shin pads. If a player chooses to pull up his socks up over his knees that is no concern to referees. Some players chose this way of wearing socks https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5256/5461362547_935f4705ee_b.jpg Interestingly some clubs have banned youth players from doing this citing that youth development is about maintaining standards including looking professional while wearing match kit.

It is no particular concern of the referee's as it is not against the law for a player to wear their socks this way and there is no safety issue. My daughter when she was younger, always used to wear her socks this way when playing and none of her coaches had a problem with it though I understand what ref McHugh is saying about some clubs frowning on it.
