Question Number: 30828Law 4 - The Players Equipment 9/27/2016RE: 1st division Women's Adult Hugh MacDonald of Delta, British Columbia Canada asks...Are there rules against women wearing metal cleats on grass fields? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Hugh None and all manufacturers provide metal cleat options which are perfectly legal including the metal blade cleats. There could be a competition rule about wearing cleats on some surfaces such as artificial grass. Without any local competition rule there is no restriction on metal cleats. Now metal cleats are no more dangerous than any other cleat material. They can though become damaged by walking on rough concrete so the referee should check the cleats for burrs, sharp edges.

It has probably come about from some areas telling referees to be very wary of metal studs - damaged studs can result in sharp edges which are likely to be much more dangerous than plastic studs.
