Law 11 - Offside 5/24/2024

Petr of Prague, Czech Republic Czech Republic asks...

Thanks!

I found one video that perfectly illustrates exactly what I mean.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-QMZ-i9le8

Endo in an offside position blocks a defender who is close to a player who later scores.

And now let's imagine that another red player touches the ball in the air. Endo is already onside at that moment.

Will the goal count? If not, we don't assess the last touch, but the previous one. It's the same as my dribble example.

Thank you very much!

Law 11 - Offside 5/23/2024

Petr of Prague, Czech Republic Czech Republic asks...

Hello,

one more offside question, please.

Situation 1:

Player A20 runs with the ball towards the goal. In doing so, A20 touches the ball several times. We assess five such offside situations (A20 touches).

In the fourth situation (touch) the teammate A44 is in an offside position and blocks the opponent.

With the last (fifth) touch, A20 passes the ball into the box. Teammate A44 is in an onside position.

(There are still two options - 'onside' A20 still blocks the defender vs. no longer blocks the defender. Does it change the decision?). Teammate A44 scores.

Is it offside? Or when is it offside? Or does the last touch reset the previous ones?

Situati...

Law 11 - Offside 5/23/2024

Petr of Prague, Czech Republic Czech Republic asks...

Thanks!

A similar situation was in the European League final (at match time 90:00, potential penalty check)

Schick was in a small offside close to the opponent. The defender headed towards Hlozek. Hlozek was in contact with another defender. When the defender headed, Schick was far away.

Our 'famous' commentator told us that it was a foul, but because of Schick's offside there will be no penalty. But this commentator is often wrong and probably made me stupid again :-)

Unfortunately I don't have a video. Maybe you can find it somewhere....

Law 11 - Offside 5/22/2024

Petr of Prague, Czech Republic Czech Republic asks...

Hello,

I have one offside situation, please.

Player A20 passes the ball. A10 in offside position is close to B5 at this moment. The ball flies through the air. A10 runs towards the goal. B5 heads the ball. A10 is three meters away from B5 when the ball is headed. A13 scores.

Could it be interfering with the opponent? (A10 is close to B5 at the time of the pass)

Thank you very much!...

RE: Adult

Damien of London, UK asks...

If holding an opponent is an absolute offence resulting in a DFK, how comes in the professional game we now see shirt pulling as normalised - and not punished?

We also see defenders holding attackers arms and shoulders and vice versa, again unpunished.

Surely the law bars any use of the hands to grip an opponnent in any way?

Why are referees ignoring holding?...

RE: Competitive Adult

James of London, United Kingdom asks...

The ball goes out for a corner and no one from the attacking team goes to take it. Who does the ref book for time wasting? If the answer is the closest player to the ball. What if all the players are an equidistant from the ball?...

RE: Rec Under 15

Keith McDonnell of VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA Canada asks...

Question re: Rules for Defending Fast Players.
Our team has a very fast striker who is generally able to outpace most defenders. When the opposition plays a high line on defense he can often chip the ball past the line (or via a through ball), sprint past, and gain control downfield for a shot or cross. What’s happened in a few games recently when he tries this, particularly against teams we’ve played before, is that the defenders are actively angling their runs into his path of travel. i.e. the defenders are moving well out of their direct path to the ball and into the striker’s path, in what seems to me to be a deliberate attempt to slow him down and not lose the foot race. Some opposing coaches are telling the defender to do this (“...
